Alpine aster is a native perennial to our alpine region that performs splendidly in the Salish Sea lowlands. This dwarf aster grows up to about 6 in. tall and wide, making it lovely for lining a sunny border or in a rock garden. The narrow leaves are semi-evergreen at low elevations, retaining a little winter presence; leaving the seed heads will also host beneficial insects over the winter.
The petals are lavender-purple, complementing the yellow centers and attracting native bees and butterflies. The diminutive size and color are ideal for complementing native prairie perennials such as Armeria/Sea thrift, Oregon sunshine, yarrows and more!
