Winter Twig ID

Add a new dimension to your winter outings when you join local plant experts to learn the secrets to identifying local deciduous shrubs and trees without their leaves.
Since 1994, the Native Plant Salvage Project's winter identification courses have been overflowing with people eager to learn new ways to enjoy our natural environment when our weather turns cold and wet.

These "walking workshops" take place on a West Olympia-area nature trail. Small groups of learners will be matched with knowledgeable instructors to learn the keys to identify over 25 native woody plants.

Plant Outings

Plant outings are a great way to learn native species, botanize with friends, and enjoy a beautiful few hours outdoors! Participants learn to identify native plants in various states of bloom. Outings highlight seasonal plant displays, ID techniques, traditional uses, stages of growth and more. Small groups explore for 1 to 1.5 hours.

BioBlitzes

A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time, getting a snapshot of an area’s biodiversity. Join us at a site (often Capitol Land Trust’s Darlin Creek Preserve) to participate and help us discover what’s living and growing there. On top of helping determine the area’s biodiversity, your data will enter an open source database used by scientists and policy makers around the world!
