This PNW native Heuchera features stems full of small, delicate white flowers that supply a surprising amount of nectar for hummingbirds and bees. The glossy evergreen/semi-evergreen fleshy leaves are a larval food source for some native moths and butterflies.
The plant grows in clusters around its frilly glossy-green to reddish leaves, out of which red-hued flower stalks rise up to a foot or more, holding the abundant tiny bell-shaped blooms aloft for pollinators from May through July. Each plant spreads out 12-24 in. wide as it matures.
This PNW native saxifrage-family perennial will thrive in a shady or partly shady spot with hummus-rich soils, mixed with other shade-lovers such as Inside-out flower (Vancouveria), Epimedium, Oxalis, Bleeding-heart (Dicentra), and other saxifrages. It’s also happy receiving occasional spray from a nearby water feature, as one of its native habitats is in rock crevices near streams.
