Marrubium rotundifolium (Horehound Silver Heels/Silver-edged Horehound) (1 quart)
A nifty super-drought-tolerant perennial for hot and sunny locations, this horehound features soft felted silvery-green evergreen leaves with a slight curl for a pronounced “silver edge.” This is a mat-forming groundcover-like perennial that rises 10 in. tall and spreads 18-30 in. wide.
This plant offers a lot without demanding much in return. It’s bee friendly, deer and rabbit resistant, fragrant, and striking. In return, you must plant it in a space with plenty of sun, “lean” well-drained soils without extra organic matter, and be very careful not to over-water. This plant is not compatible with irrigation systems, as excessive water during the growing season will make the plant leggy/floppy and cause the leaves to rot.
It will do well on free-draining slopes, in rock gardens, along pathways, and in front of mixed, sunny borders.
