Carex oshimensis 'EverColor Everest' (EverColor Everest Variegated Sedge) (1 gal)

$14.00

‘EverColor Everest’ is one of the recent introductions of clumping sedges for part to full shade, bred for durability, evergreen year-round color, drought tolerance, and flexibility in design. The bright colors brighten up shady spots, and these novel sedges serve as companions for other plants with complementary or contrasting foliage.

This ‘Everest’ variety specifically features ivory-white margins bordering dark-green evergreen leaves, and grows to about 10 in. tall x 16 in. wide, though its flowing leaves are often mixed with the foliage of its neighboring plant. Its tidy form is a wonderful complement to many other woodland or shady landscape dwarf shrubs and perennials. It pairs beautifully with Hellebore, Epimedium, Inside-out flower (Vancouveria), Luzula, native woodland sedges (Carex), and other native woodland species.

This is particularly terrific massed or in groups of three or five around focal-point shrubs, such as dwarf evergreen azaleas and Sarcococca, and is perfectly sized for large containers in shady locations, filling out the lower level of the pot and spilling over the edge.

These sedges aren’t fussy about soil type (though they won’t take saturated soils), and perform best in at least a little shade up to deep shade, becoming drought tolerant after establishment. Their full soil coverage prevents weeds and also offers habitat and winter protection for small wildlife and smaller beneficial garden organisms.
