Amsonia x 'Bases Loaded' (Bases Loaded Bluestar) (1 gal)
Amsonias are perennials grown for two reasons: the small, pale-blue flowers that occur from late spring to early summer and the deep green, needle-like foliage which turns a brilliant yellow-gold in the fall! This ‘Bases Loaded’ cultivar is slightly more dwarf than some varieties, forming nicely shaped clumps 18-24 in. high x 18-32 in. wide.
This ‘Bases Loaded’ cultivar also offers particularly heavy blooms, with the pale-blue flowers darker and larger than other varieties. The flowers open in late spring and persist for many weeks; deadhead to prolong the bloomtime.
Full sun (6+ hours/day) is critical to produce this intense fall color, but they will tolerate a wide variety of soils.
While they need moderate moisture to establish, ultimately they will be drought-tolerant. Attractive to bees and butterflies, they are bunny and deer resistant.
