Molinia caerulea 'Variegata' (Variegated Purple Moor Grass) 1 gal

$12.00

Use this tidy and compact clumping ornamental grass to brighten a part-sun spot, or plant in masses to define the front of the border. Featuring pale yellow-striped variegated foliage that casts a glow to darker spaces or provides a foil for many shrubs or perennials. In late summer, the airy, purple-tinged flower spikes rise 18-24 in. above the foliage, providing a nice backdrop to many waterwise perennials. Flowers persist through winter, providing forage for beneficial insects and birds.

Super in sun as well as light shade, but may require an occasional drink of water in hotter settings. The dense foliage grows ~12-18 in. tall x 18 in. wide, over time. Since they originate in moist heathlands, they can tolerate some winter moisture around their feet — making them a good candidate for adding plantings in a dry streambed/drainage swale or Zone 2 of a rain garden. It is very adaptable, long-lived, easy-care, and drought tolerant — plus a "Great Plant Pick" for the Pacific Northwest!
