Camassia quamash (Common camas)

from $7.85
Out of Stock

A signature species of our South Salish prairies, in spring through very early summer Common Camas fills lean prairie soils with a sea of blue-purple blooms! The spikes of purple/blue flowers are borne atop 8-24 in. stems, and pair nicely with yellow-blooming native and waterwise perennials, such as Lomatium, which echo the brilliant yellow of the Camas flower’s centers. Plant with late-season or evergreen subshrubs or perennials to occupy the space left as this spring ephemeral fades.

Best in full to partial sun and lean, droughty soils, Camas offers support to very early pollinators and beneficial insects and is a food staple for several local tribal people who use traditional knowledge.

Over time, each plant will self-propagate by bulblets, expanding the impact where you plant it!
