Allium acuminatum (Tapertip onion) 4"

$6.00
Out of Stock

A beautiful perennial bulb, native to South Salish prairies, dry hillsides, and rocky slopes. The globe of 10-20 magenta flower clusters blooms in May-July, held aloft on stalks 8-14 in. tall above the lightly fragrant oniony leaves (which wither just before the flowers show begins).

The glorious flowers attract and support gobs of spring/summer pollinators. Pair this with other perennials that are later-emerging or have more year-round presence, as this lovely bulb is ephemeral.

Plant in full sun to part shade on just about any soil that is free-draining. It needs little, if any, supplemental water, even during establishment. It’s not only drought tolerant, it will not perform well if it gets too wet.

The fragrant leaves make it moderately deer and rabbit resistant.
