As drought-tolerant biennials or short-lived perennials, they are dormant by late summer but will self-seed for the following year. Deadheading the faded blooms will promote new flowers, enabling a flush of new blooms in late summer/early fall. They attract bees and butterflies, but not deer or rabbits.
