Frangula purshiana (Cascara)

$0.00

A favorite native tree for small spaces like home gardens. With its narrow form and petite height for a tree (15-35 ft.), it"s very adaptable to many landscapes. Beautiful in all seasons with shapely winter form, vibrant green leaves all summer, brilliant fall color, and shiny black fruits favored by songbirds!

Very versatile, it can be an understory species in shade or stand on its own as a featured small tree in full sun. Also adaptable to many soil types.

Deer will nip at the branches when it"s young, including nibbling the top leader, which may make a bushier tree ultimately. But its naturally narrow branches quickly adapt to some nibbling, producing new growth. Nonetheless, you may need to offer some protection from deer when the plants are young, until they"ve grown tall enough to resist snacking.

This tree offers bark with a laxative effect, which has been a longtime herbal remedy and was once an important commercial crop.

Note: These are bargain priced due to some deer nibbling!
