Allium 'Millenium' (Millenium Ornamental Onion)

$0.00

The Perennial Plant Association awarded this new 'Millenium' cultivar its coveted "Perennial of the Year" award in 2018, and we've been understanding why ever since! We've used this new selection in multiple demonstration landscapes and edges of rain gardens. It's particularly fetching at the edge of the landscape, perhaps defining the garden bed or providing a beautiful but surprisingly resilient and heat-tolerant edging along a busy sidewalk. As with all Allium, the bunnies and deer steer clear, but the butterflies and other pollinators are abuzz from mid-summer to fall on this long-blooming, fragrant beauty! This selection features tight globes of bright, abundant rosy-purple blooms and glossy, deep-green grass-like foliage. Its compact form (12-18" tall & as wide in spreading clumps) and the abundance of blooms give it a very tidy, organized appearance that can front for taller full-sun perennials behind, such as sedums, Russian sage, Hyssopus, Agastache, Rudbeckia, daylilies and more!

Tough & easy to grow, best in full or mostly-sunny sites with good drainage; mature clumps should be divided in spring or fall; amend clay or heavy soils with compost to increase drainage. Extremely drought tolerant, deer resistant, fire-wise, and heat-tolerant.
