Native Plant Salvage #1

Site Information/Directions for
February 4th Salvage:

We’ll be salvaging at the site from 9:30am-12:30pm. The site is just off exit 101 on I-5. From the exit, head West on Tumwater Blvd (a right, if on I-5 S). At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto Littlerock Rd SW. At the next traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto W Israel Rd and immediately turn right into the parking lot (with A Hill of Beans Espresso).

Here is a map link to the parking area.

Comfort Details:

  • Please dress in layers for all potential weather; raingear helps keep you clean and comfortable even if it’s not raining.

  • Hats and non-cotton long underwear on top and bottom will keep you warm and dry. Avoid heavy cotton pants on their own, especially without a protective layer.

  • Please wear sturdy and waterproof footwear.

  • We will provide extra work gloves, but if you have your own, please bring those. We recommend thin glove liners underneath work gloves to keep your hands warmer and drier.

  • We have some rain gear to loan; please let us know in advance if you will need it.

During our salvages, volunteers save small native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants from local areas scheduled for clearing. NPS Salvages are a great way to practice plant identification and meet fellow plant nerds!

Some dates are still up in the air, but we’ve listed the weekends we plan on salvaging and will update those dates soon.

A few important things to note:

  • Salvage location can change by event — pay attention to the address and map links.

  • These are rain or shine or snow or sleet events: dress accordingly!

  • All events occur in two parts: first at the salvage site and second at our plant nursery. If you’d like to salvage plants for yourself as well, we ask that you volunteer some time at the afternoon nursery work party.

  • NPS will provide gloves, tools, and snacks.

  • Come when you can and stay as long as you’d like!
