"Discover Hedgerows" Success Tour at Piece by Piece Farm

Piece by Piece Farm’s demonstration hedgerow was installed in November 2024 to support year-round habitat for the pollinators and other beneficial organisms that enhance organic crop production; provide a windbreak and buffer from a busy adjacent roadway; support healthy water resources; and sequester carbon.

Join us to hear first-hand from the farm’s owners, our Thurston Conservation District colleagues, and the original hedgerow designers on our team about the installation methods used and successes/challenges so far. We’ll dive into how the hedgerow’s initial design is expected to meet the farmers' goals; the budget/costs, required farmers' time, and grants that supported the initial installations; the irrigation system pros & cons; plant survival rates; and lessons learned so far on our very first demonstration hedgerow!

Details & directions will be emailed to all participants several days prior to the event, so please watch your inbox/spam for that email!

This hedgerow was installed through a partnership of Piece by Piece Farm’s owners; Thurston Conservation District; WSU Extension; Thurston County Water Resources; USDA NRCS; Washington Conservation Commission; and Native Plant Salvage Foundation.
